Pretty well the whole great State of Texas remains frozen after a historic long lasting snow, ice and single diget temperature event.

We Texans can handle the cold weather for a while, but this latest ‘cold spell’ has made us ready to yell ‘calf rope’ for several days. It’s Tuesday and the saga continues with more of the same ice, cold temps, hazardous travel conditions and tough ranching duties in the forecast.

Texas governor, Greg Abbott, issued a state of emergency across the entire state ahead of the arrival of the storm, and secured a federal emergency declaration from the White House in order to make additional resources available for communities impacted by this weather event.

The whole state of Texas was under a Special Winter Weather Alert and just when the sun peeks through the clouds, we’re in for more. Snow and freezing precipitation are in the forecast through Thursday.

Here in little Rocksprings and Edwards County, we’ve joined the entire state in power outages and problems caused by all the prolonged freezing weather and accumulating ice. Power company crews are hard at work. Not only are utility poles breaking from the weight of ice on the lines, but tree limbs, especially live oak, are falling on power lines, houses and roadways.
