Lady Angoras start off season with wins
The Rocksprings Lady A Varsity team started off its season on home turf on Tuesday, November 12th. The ladies jumped on the other team quickly as all five starting girls managed to find the hoop in the first quarter and defensively held the Lady Eagles to two free throws.
The 19 to 2 start was what won the game, because the Lady Eagles came alive and fought point for point the remainder of the game. As the defensive game took over, both teams only squeaked out 7 points apiece in the second quarter, leaving the half time score – Rocksprings 26 to Grape Creek’s 9.
The third quarter defense was just as impressive, but the Lady A’s crept up by one more point. The final quarter push allowed the home team to punch in another sixteen points and win the game 50 to 31.
Noteworthy stats: Zoe Burleson 28 points, Amandah Viera 4 steals, Paige Elliott 9 assists and Bree Rodriguez 6 rebounds. Others scoring in the game were Elliott with 8, Rebecca Ruiz with 8, Rodriguez with 2, Viera with 2, plus Mia Franco and Jasmine Carrillo with 1 free throw each. These girls were joined in the winning effort by Andrea Ruiz and Emma Franco.
