Angoras leave their mark in District 31 basketball games
The Rocksprings Angoras basketball team travelled to D’Hanis on Tuesday, December 18th, 2018 to open up the District 31 play. The JV Boys would begin the action for the Angoras and they would lead D’Hanis after one quarter 14 to 8. The Angoras JV Boys would continue to maintain their slight lead at halftime 21 – 18. The second half would see Rocksprings tally 25 points to the Cowboys’ 17. The final score would be 46 to 35 and the JV Angoras would start out district play in good form. The Angora JV team scoring is as follows: Jake Parks-Franco 16, Jesus Menchaca 14, Jonathan Arispe 6, Dakota Arispe 3, Eddie Ortiz 2, Dorien Enriquez 2, Adrian Mata 2, Roberto Rivas 2, and playing but not scoring were Damon Bounds, Rafael Sifuentes, Jacob Palacios and Ozzie Rendon. The Varsity Angora boys would follow the Lady A’s after their victory and this game was going to be a battle from the initial tip. D’Hanis is paced by 6’5 senior post, Alex Magers, who is a left handed pitcher that is reportedly going to sign with Texas A&M in the spring to play baseball next season. The presence of Magers in the post posed an early problem for the Angoras. The highlight of the game was right before the intermission J.J. Barrera hurled a pass to Jesse Silva, who launched a half court nothing but net buzzer beater. Rocksprings and D’Hanis both tallied 29 in the second half and the game was close throughout but the Angoras came out on top 64 – 58. Scoring by quarters are as follows: Rocksprings 14 21 16 13 = 64 D’Hanis 10 19 17 12 = 58 Rocksprings was paced by Christian Montoya 25, Jesse Silva 20, Chris Flores, 8, Jace Hendley 6, J.J. Barrera 5, and playing but not scoring were Johnny Gomez, D.J. Garcia, and Paco Ramirez. The road win improved Rocksprings to 15 - 4 overall and more importantly 1 – 0 in district.
