Devil’s Sinkhole annual meeting and fundraiser needs

The annual Devil’s Sinkhole meeting will be held Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at 6 p.m. at the visitors center, but mostly by Microsoft Teams and FaceTime. The biggest need for the meeting is someone to complete the second year of the vice president’s term. They will discuss the general organizational health and the plans for the big 50th year, but the main business of the annual meeting is always reestablishing the board of directors. There are nine current directors, serving two-year terms. Four terms are up this year and five will be up next year. They have the half term vacancy as well this year.

Undefeated Lady Angoras claim District 31A Champs!

The Lady Angoras played their final three district games this last week. First the Lady Angoras faced the Cowgirls in D’Hanis on Tuesday, January 26th. Unlike the last match up with the Cowgirls back in December, the Ladies got a solid start, but only led by 1 point at the end of the first quarter. Both teams moved in to the bonus in the second quarter, where the Rocksprings girls used their free throws and some inside shots to move further ahead with a score of 24 to 18 at the half. Then the Lady Angoras stepped up their defense in the 3rd quarter and held D’Hanis scoreless for that quarter. Although by a narrow margin, the Lady Angoras controlled the game and beat D’Hanis 38 to 26. Noteworthy Stats: Claire Burleson - 15 points and 10 rebounds, Paige Elliott - 14 points and 10 rebounds, and Ava Grooms - 12 rebounds. Others scoring: Kiki Hilliard 6 points, Ailynn Infante, Grooms and Rebecca Ruiz 1 point each.

1950s polio

Edwards County also witnessed a polio outbreak in the 1950s. The “iron lung” had become available in the 1930s and stopped asphyxiation of polio victims, dramatically reducing death rates. Then a vaccine was developed in 1954.
