Last Tuesday afternoon an Edwards County Sheriff’s Deputy stopped a silver Nissan Pathfinder on HWY 377 north of Rocksprings. The traffic stop resulted in the arrest of 2 U.S. Citizens and 7 IAs. The 2 U.S. citizens were arrested for smuggling and the 7 IAs were turned over to U.S. Border Patrol.

Local Carroll Smith and daughter Kit Alexander of LaVernia recently traveled to Cheyenne, WY. Kit’s daughter, Emily Ramzinski works for RFD TV and The Cowboy Channel and was on assignment in Cheyenne. Emily attends Tarleton State University and is majoring in Ag Business. She’ll be returning to Stephenville to continue her studies this month. Fifty years ago, Carroll along with high school friend, Tommy Fryar, went to Cheyenne to attend the rodeo. At the time, Chris Ledoux, country and western singer/saddle bronc rider, came into their room and they all watched the rodeo before flying home. This year, Carroll and Kit drove up and wre able to watch Saturday and Sunday’s rodeos and take pictures at the Chris Ledoux statue. They then brought Emily and her new puppy back to Fort Worth for her job.
Edwards County Commissioners Court was held this past Tuesday morning with all Commissioners being present. County Judge Souli Shanklin led the Pledge of Allegiance to both the American and Texas flags and Commissioner Kenneth Reed led the courtroom in prayer. There was no one to speak in Open Forum and there were no Staff Reports to discuss.
