A new kind of Texas windmill... The Rocksprings Wind Turbine Farm
Windmill is a common term in Texas, but a new breed of wind tamer is becoming more prevalent over our western landscape. For the past several months, large pieces of these parts have been moving, or trying to move, through Rocksprings. If possible they turn west on HWY 377 toward Del Rio. Their destination-off Hwy 377 and 277.
The new wind turbine field is being constructed by a French-owned Akuo Energy who has contracted General Electric to assemble 69 wind turbines to produce energy for Wal-Mart and 3M in Val Verde County. The project, which is expected to be functioning by September 1, is currently under construction near the intersection of Highway 277 and Hwy 377, said Akuo Energy U.S. Chief Executive Officer Thomas Sote.
Wind turbines are constructed in some areas with good wind production to produce another source of clean renewable energy. This field is known as the Rocksprings Wind Turbine Farm.
