Locally: Arrests of illegal aliens on increase, arson suspect arrested
On July 28, 2019 at approximately 12:30 a.m. a Deputy from the Edwards County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a white 2009 Chevrolet Silverado at the intersection of Hwy 377 South and RR674 for a traffic violation. The Silverado came to a stop. The Deputy exited his patrol unit to make connection with the driver and the Silverado took off evading the Deputy. The Deputy then began to pursue the Silverado in his patrol unit. The vehicle chase entered the City of Rocksprings and continued onto Hwy 377 North. The vehicle came to a stop near the between mile markers of 594 and 592, and all the occupants of the Silverado bailed out. The Deputy ordered all the occupants to stop. The occupants jumped the fence and ran into the brush. The Deputy was able to detain one male and placed him in hand retrains. The male was identified as an illegal alien.
Real County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Parks and Wildlife and U.S. Border Patrol assisted in the search of the other occupants. A total of six occupants bailed out of the Silverado (four males including the driver and 2 females). Several hours later, a male emerged from the brush surrendering to the Edwards County Sheriff’s Office.
