Junk yard in town ignites, cause unknown
RECVFD was toned out to a fire Thursday evening, Jan. 23 around 6:40 p.m. at the end of N. Well Street. A junk yard with piles of metal and stacked cars had somehow been ignited. Reportedly, a youthful group were setting off fireworks and exploding bullets. After a couple of hours of work firefighters were able to extinguish the flames and all responders made it home safe.
Rockspring/Edwards Volunteer Fire Chief Eddie Franco said, “Some of these areas are extremely dangerous because of the piles of metal and stacks of vehicles that could potentially fall on someone if they are too close at the time. Please stay safe and always keep in mind that when you see your local VFD on their way to a fire/call, please stay away from the scene so you don’t slow their progress on getting to what may be someone’s home or life that they may need saving.”
