Community pulls together to ‘Save the Trees’ on Main Street
This summer season has been especially hard on the trees that line our town’s main street. The heat and the lack of rain have taken its toll. Many have noticed the trees browning. Several calls to the city about the issue were received, and the city acted.
The newly hired public works director attempted to use the city’s irrigation system that was installed years ago. That system was specifically designed to water those trees. Sadly what he found is that the irrigation system, like so many other things, had been neglected over the years, had not been maintained or repaired, and hadn’t functioned in a very long time. The city next attempted to water the trees with other equipment on hand, and this expedient measure helped in a pinch though it was clear that was not a viable solution.
