In 1931, the Rocksprings Mexican Baptist Mission was started by a missionary couple that came to Rocksprings and stayed in the home of Mrs. Ida Henry for about a month. They had services most every night and by the end of the month several people became members of the church. The mission had not been organized long before they decided to organize into a church. Letters from the First Baptist Church were asked for and Mrs. Ida Henry herself became a member and the organization of the Rocksprings Mexican Baptist Church became a reality. In June of 1973, the building that is now Little Miracles Day Care was their first building that belonged to the church. Before that they met in the Mexican school building and sometimes the theater. When a preacher could not be here Jose De La Rosa, of Rocksprings, played the piano, sang and preached. Ella Rivas was the secretary and Elida Peña was the pianist for a few years. In 1952, Mr. Henry died and Mrs. Henry decided to move to Del Rio, so the people put their church letters back into the First Baptist Church and became a mission again. In March of 1956, the church made arrangements with David Espova, the pastor of the Mexican Baptist Church in Uvalde, to come three times each month on a weekday and preach to the people. It was at this time that Virginia Templeton felt led by the Lord to go to the Mission to help with the work there, and since the people had not been keeping their Sunday school work going, she ordered some literature for them and they started having Sunday school again. In 1981, the mission celebrated its 50th anniversary with a homecoming and all day services. Leo Saminiego preached for them this day. In 1983, Lowell Hankins built an annex onto the mission building, which included Sunday School class rooms, a kitchen and a dining area. In the 1990s, the mission closed and the facility later became Little Miracle’s Child Care Center in September of 2002. |
