Judge Gallegos attends Regional Review Committee Meeting - Edwards County Judge Nick Gallegos recently attended the Middle Rio Grande Development Council Regional Review Committee Meeting held in Uvalde April 14th. Each of Texas’ twenty-four (24) regional councils, known as Council of Governments, has its own Regional Review Committee (RRC). Each Regional Review Committee is comprised of twelve (12) local elected officials, appointed at the pleasure of the Governor. Composition of each RRC reflects geographic diversity within the region, differences in population among eligible localities and types of governments. The role of each Regional Review Committee is to participate in the process for determining regional priorities for projects funded through the Office of Rural Community Affairs, Community Development Fund. The responsibility of the twelve committee members was to discuss and approve proposed objective scoring criteria to be implemented during the 2009/2010 application period. As the state agency dedicated to rural Texas, ORCA makes the broad resources of state government more accessible to rural communities. “ORCA’s goal is to strengthen rural communities so that they remain contributors to the prosperity of the state and to the rich cultural identity that is distinctly Texan,” stated Judge Gallegos.
