Emergency Services Auxiliary Update

- Emergency Services Auxiliary (aka the Food People) is a voluntary, non-profit group organized to support the local emergency services personnel. We would typically provide food, water and supplies to emergency personnel during disasters, fires, and search and rescue operations. The most common activity of the auxiliary is preparing and delivering meals and water to the firemen while fighting grass fires. Because our firemen do such a good job of extinguishing fires quickly, we have not been called upon to provide food in over a year. When we recently were asked to get food and water out to the Carta Valley fire we realized that our volunteer list was outdated. We are also going to be low on funds after this fire. We want to explain to our community how we operate and sign up anyone who would be willing to help.
The Emergency Services Auxiliary is funded only by donations. Businesses and individuals have always donated funds to pay for food, water and supplies delivered to fires. Since the auxiliary has been organized there is a reliable accounting of those funds. All donations are handled by Peoples State Bank. In an effort to insure that all funds are accounted for, we ask that those wishing to make a donation take it directly to the bank. The directors of the organization are responsible for buying supplies which are paid for by check so those expenses can be accounted for. Your donations will only be used to purchase food and supplies needed to support emergency personnel. Money will never be given to an individual or organization for any cause.
When a request is made for food, Sheriff’s office dispatch calls one of the people on the contact list provided. That person then notifies volunteers who have agreed to help. Volunteers have signed up to help prepare food, deliver meals, set up and/or man a canteen at the command center, clean up equipment, run errands and raise funds. Volunteers are not expected to “do it all.” They are asked to do only what they have signed up to do.
Currently the Board of Directors is made up of Joe Baker, Kathy Walker, Misti Splawn, Pauline Erekson and Paula Epperson. Several of our volunteers have moved and some have had changes in their lives that prevent them from helping at this time.
Others have helped out that are not on our list. So we need to update our list. If you would be willing to help out on very short notice, please call one of our directors and add your name to the list.
