Edwards County voters, some 882 strong, cast their votes in the Primary Election. There were 460 going to the polls on election day, March 2nd, and 372 casting early votes from February 16th-26th. In the Edwards County Judge’s race, incumbent Nick Gallegos will now face opponent Mark Bean in a runoff. Gallegos received 45.02% of the vote, Bean 30.73% and Olga Lydia Reyes 24.25%. Runoff election date is April 5th. Romana Rendon Bienek challenged incumbent Joe Baker for the Justice of the Peace position. Baker garnered 291 votes to Beinek’s 287. The close race may result in a recount. In other contested races Lee Sweeten won over Dale Nance in the Commissioner Pct. 2 & 5 race, and incumbent Mike Grooms kept his Commissioner Pct. 4 position over Annette Franco. Results were finalized by 9:33 p.m. Tuesday evening. |
