SAVE WATER

- (2nd Place Junior College Areawide Contest)
Essay by Nueces Canyon CISD 7th grader
Ace Sanchez
Did you know that we have the same percentage of water as the dinosaurs had when they were alive millions of years ago? It’s hard to believe, but it’s true if we don’t start saving water we will probably run out of clean water very soon! To save water you could buy a new shower head and save about two gallons of water every minute you’re taking a shower. You could also collect rain water and water your garden or plants you have around your house instead of using the city water. You could use recycled water to water the grass in the summer so water can be saved if we get into a drought. It is important for us to clean around our rivers and springs so that they don’t become polluted, and we don’t want to lose animals that are native to this area and the animals that we need to survive off of. Our water will only get better or it will get worse!
To help against soil erosion you could move your livestock from different areas so that your area of land doesn’t get overgrazed and soil won’t move into the air when the wind blows. Another thing about soil is that it is very important to the human race because it takes soil to have plants that we need to eat and food for the animals that need them to survive and the biggest of all the problems without plants there wouldn’t be oxygen and without oxygen all of the human race would become extinct! Just like water, soil is very important. We must stick together to protect the soil so that we will have soil for many year to come. To keep soil from being polluted don’t pour any chemicals or fluids into the ground or trash and then burn them because not only are you polluting the soil but the air to so please help to keep both water and soil clean and non polluted.
