Rosa was one of nine brothers and sisters. She was the proud mother of Robert, Caroline, Erby, Amaro, Oscar and Gandy Hernandez and the ever-loving grandmother to Alicia, Leandra, Joseph, Matthew, Nikolas and Jonas. Other survivors include an aunt and great-aunt to numerous nieces and nephews. Everyone knew her for her fun-loving free-spirit, giving nature and honest but open mind. Her wit would always catch you off guard, but her smile would melt your heart. She will forever be remembered for her enduring strength and her magnanimous character. Although her time to pass came all too quickly, she will forever be in our hearts and prayers, We thank God for the gift of our Rosa and the time we all shared with her. Rosa was preceded in death by her sister Manuela “Nellie” Hidalgo-Vasquez. Services were held Saturday, November 17, 2007 at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Camp Wood, Texas. Arrangements were under the direction of Nelson Funeral Home of Camp Wood, Texas. George Douglas Miles, 67, of Vance, Texas died November 10, 2007 at his home in Vance. He was born July 26, 1940 in Spokane, Washington to Earle and Suzanne Curtis Miles. George was married to Doris Elizabeth Miles for 41 years. They moved from San Antonio to Nueces Canyon in 1971 and George was the foreman of the Hackberry Ranch for 12 years before he became a Texas Government trapper in 1983. George retired from trapping in 1999. He was active for many years with the Nueces Canyon EMS and the Nueces Canyon School Board. George was preceded in death by his son Aaron Miles; brother Teddy Miles and his parents Earle and Suzanne Miles. He is survived by his loving wife Doris Elizabeth Miles of Vance; sons: Mark Miles of Muldoon, Texas and Nathan Miles stationed in Korea; sisters: Sue Dyson and Jean Slagle; brothers: Kurt, Lee and Richard Miles along with grandchildren Trent and Alexis Miles. George will be missed by his family and many friends in the community. Services were held Friday, November 16, 2007 at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Camp Wood, Texas. Father John Fiala officated and burial was in the Miles Family Cemetery in Vance. Military Honors were provided by the United States Marine Corp. Arrangements were under the direction of Nelson Funeral Home of Camp Wood, Texas. William Iryl ‘Ott’ New, 92, of Camp Wood died October 25, 2007, at Cedar Hills Geriatric Center in Camp Wood. He was born January 29, 1915, in Camp Verde, Texas, to Jacob Jake Joseph and Lena Elizabeth Ham New. He married Cloma G. Merritt. New was proud to have served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Floyd New, Eual New and Clayton New; and five sisters, Ola Thompson, Ilda Merritt, Elva Mills, Lilian Reed and Fay Sietz. New is survived by his wife of 60 years; one daughter, Debra New Brown and husband, Jimmy, of Camp Wood; two sons, Stanley Michael New of Camp Wood and Bill New and wife, Wanda, of San Antonio; seven grandchildren, Tray New and wife, Nita, of San Antonio, Kaid New and wife, Christianna, of Comfort, Tully Brown of Camp Wood, Casey Wardlaw and husband, Dutch, of Del Rio, Dobie New and wife, Ashley, of Liberty Hill, Colt New of Tomball and Dakota New of Liberty Hill; seven great-grandchildren, Uriah, Mackenzie and Micah New of San Antonio, Serenity and Luke Brand New of Comfort, and Cuatro and Cinco Wardlaw of Del Rio; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services were held October 29th at the First Baptist Church in Barksdale. Interment followed in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Camp Wood. The Rev. Greg Johnson officiated. Pallbearers were Tray New, Kaid New, Tully Brown, Dobie New, Dutch Wardlaw and Colt New. Honorary pallbearers were Dakota New and Casey Wardlaw. Arrangements by Nelson Funeral Home of Camp Wood. |
