- Augustina Calderon
Augustina Calderon, 87, a former resident of Rocksprings for 20 years, died on December 16, 2005 in Melchor Muzquiz, Coahuila, Mexico. She was born August 28, 1918 in Muzquiz, Coahuila to Andres and Irene Gonzales. She was proceded in death by her husband Antonio Calderon and parents Andres and Irene Gonzales.
She is survived by two daughters: Antonia Coronado Calderon of Muzquiz, Coahuila and Irene Cavazos and husband Polo Jr., of Rocksprings; two sons Martin Calderon and wife Maria of Kerrville, Texas and Eusebio Calderon and wife Elvira of Aurora, Illinois; grandchildren: Josefina Ravago and husband Juan, Juan Jose Coronado and wife Sonia, Lourdez Ramirez and husband Omar, Jose Luiz Coronado, Veronica Coronado and Gerardo Antonio Coronado and wife Lucy all of Muzquiz, Coahuila, Hilda Isabel Perez and husband Usvaldo of Rocksprings, Eneida Cavazos of San Antonio, Polo Cavazos III of Sealy, Texas and Nazario Cavazos of Rocksprings, Juan Martin Calderon of Irving, Texas (currently stationed in Bosnia), Silvia Castillo of San Antonio, Marisa Calderon of Kerrville, Sandra Garcia and husband Michael of Fort Worth, Texas and Beatriz Rodriquez and husband Victor of San Antonio, Edna Diaz and husband Raul, Elisa Villa and husband Felipe, Eva Calderon, Elvira Calderon and Eduvina Calderon all of Aurora, Illinois and thirty-six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on December 17th at 3:00 p.m. at the Santa Rosa de Lima Catholic Church. Graveside was at the Santa Rosa Cemetery.
Arrangements were by Cadena Funeral Home of Muzquiz, Coahuila.
Donald G. Gass
Donald G. Gass, Sr., 68, of Camp Wood, Texas died December 26, 2005 at his home in Camp Wood Hills. He was born December 3, 1937 in Uvalde, Texas to Randolph & Elsie Gass.
On the 25th of April 1969, Donald married Joy Flowers Petty in Toyah, Texas. He worked for Pennzoil Co. in Pecos, Texas for 25 years . After retiring he worked as the constable of Reeves County for 22 years. They moved to Rocksprings in 1993 and then to Camp Wood in 1995. He was an active director with the Nueces Canyon Junior Horse Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents Randolph and Elsie Gass, brother Elmer Gass and sisters Lida Morgan and Edna Aten.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Joy Ellen Gass of Camp Wood; sons, Donald Gass, Jr. and wife Carrie of Leakey, Billy Jay Petty of Midland, Gary Don Petty of Odessa and Paul Allen Petty and wife Laura of Toyah; daughter; Jennifer Lynn Rainwater of Camp Wood; grandchildren, Donald G. Gass III “Tray” of Fairview, Oklahoma, Chante Le Gass of Leakey, Tyenne DeShea Gass of Leakey, Amy Bomer and husband Lonnie of Utopia, Taylor Rainwater of Camp Wood, Falyn Rainwater of Camp Wood, Joy Marie Esquivelle and husband Josh of Toyah, Jeremy Petty of Toyah; great grandchildren, Amaris Esquivelle of Toyah, Lonnie Slade and Kylie May Bomer of Utopia; brothers, Acie Gass and wife Margie of Junction, Paul Gass and wife Burta of Uvalde, Lemuel Gass and wife Lillian of Uvalde, Tommy Gass and Lucy Fay of Fredericksburg; sister, Maurene Cave and husband Bill of Winters and numerous nieces and nephews.
No services were held by request. Donald wanted to be cremated and have a small memorial held by family members. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother and will be missed by all.
Maria Cristiana Villarreal, 65, died December 25, 2005 in San Antonio.
Born September 11, 1940, in Rocksprings, Maria was the daughter of Atanasio R. and Jeronima (Vela) Perez.
Maria was united in marriage to Benigno Belio Villarreal.
Her parents; her brothers, Vicente Perez and George Perez; and her son Benino Villarreal II preceded her in death.
Surviving Maria in addition to her husband Benigno are her sons: Antonio “Tony” and wife Lisa Villarreal, Fort Stockton; Roland and wife Elsa Villarreal, Kerrville; Amaro and wife Raquel Villarreal, Kerrille; Gabriel and wife Belinda Villarreal, Helotes; her daughter, Anabel and husband Fermin Venegas Jr., Fort Stockton; sixteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, Alonso Perez and wife Maria, North Sacramento, California and Atanasio Perez Jr. and wife Nellie, Rancho Cordova, California; her sisters, Paulina and husband Jesus Cavasos and Maria Louisa Verdusco, all of Burnet; Alicia and husband Rudolfo Olvera, West Sacramento, California; Beatriz and husband Marcos Maldonado, Rancho Cordova, California; and Elida and husband George Hernandez, Sacramento, California.
A rosary was held Tuesday, December 27 at Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Rocksprings.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 28 at Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Rocksprings. Father John Fiala officiated. Pallbearers were her grandsons-Benjamin Villarreal, Amaro Villarreal, Belio Rendon, Jon-Erik Villarreal, Roland J. Villarreal, Jr. and Tony J. Villarreal, Jr.
Interment was in Rocksprings Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home, Fort Stockton.
Highway Patrol trooper Billy J. Zachary was killed Sunday afternoon when he was struck by a pickup truck while conducting a traffic stop on IH-20 near Monahans.
Trooper Zachary had two vehicles stopped on the shoulder of westbound IH-20. He was issuing a citation to a driver when he was struck by a pickup truck driven by Mario Andres Valdez, 33, of Odessa. Trooper Zachary was thrown into the bar ditch separating the interstate from the frontage road.
Trooper Zachary, 32, had been with the DPS since February 2004. He is the 79th DPS officer killed in the line of duty.
Trooper Zachary is survived by his wife and an infant.
