Jim Bill Cloudt

- Jim Bill Cloudt, Sr., long-time citizen and rancher of Rocksprings, Texas, died in the early morning hours of May 21, 2008, in San Angelo, Texas. Jim was born to Lyda Owens Cloudt and Otto Bismark Cloudt on August 19, 1921, in Rocksprings, and was the youngest of five children. He attended school in Rocksprings and graduated from Rocksprings High School in 1938. Upon graduating from high school he attended Texas A & M University in College Station and received a B.S. Degree in 1942. Immediately thereafter, Jim enlisted in the Army and spent 23 months in the South Pacific.
After returning to the States, Jim married the former Ina Mae “Scotty” Thomas on April 22, 1945. They had two sons: Jim Bill Cloudt, Jr. and Thomas Owens Cloudt. Jim entered UT Law School in 1946. After graduation and licensing, he practiced in the area of Immigration and Naturalization. Jim and Scotty lived much of their lives in San Antonio and were married for 51 years until Scotty died in October of 1996.
Jim loved living on his ranch and took great pride in raising his cattle and his goats. One of our fondest memories is sitting on the front porch with him and listening to his stories of what the ranch--and ranch life--had been like through the years. Stories about real cowboys, cattle drives, the devastating tornado, draws running, and life in Rocksprings will stay etched in our minds for sharing with future generations.
Jim found love a second time when he was reunited with a former classmate, Jimmie Jacoby, in 2006. Jim and Jimmie were married in Ozona on May 19, 2007. Though their time together was short, we are glad that Jim had the companionship and love of a wife in the last years of his life.
Jim is survived by his son Jim and his wife Janet, and Tom and his wife Lou, and three grandchildren:Jennifer, Jack and Julia, as well as current wife, Jimmie Jacoby Cloudt of Ozona and her two sons: David and Pete. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Graveside services were held on Saturday, May 24, 2008, at the Rocksprings Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. Services were conducted by the Reverend John Fluth, Jr., of the Ozona United Methodist Church.
Arrangements by Preddy Funeral Home of Ozona, Texas.
