Lena is preceded in death by, her husband Marvin Nelson, her parents, John and Lena Shipman, two sisters Dorothy Pennington and Isophen Farris and one brother Sydney Shipman. She is survived by sons: John A. Nelson and wife Jean; Joe T. Nelson and wife Algianita all of Fort Stockton; daughter Geneva McMain of Port Arthur, Texas; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren. Maggie J. or Mama J., as most people knew her, was born in Camp Wood and lived in that area until she moved to Ft. Stockton in 1996. Some of her happiest times were spent with her family on her ranch just outside of Barksdale. She loved the outdoors and taking care of her pets. She worked with the Nueces Canyon School District in the school cafeteria for 25 years until she retired in 1985. She was a faithful follower of the Jehovah Witness and was often recognized for her punctually, dedication to her studies and witness to others. She will be well remembered for her wonderful meals which always included your favorite food if she knew you were going to be there. Her face would light up when she was talking about her children, she was so proud of them. Graveside services were held April 1st at the Barksdale Cemetery. |
