She married Wesley Ray Baugh on June 15, 1930 in Bisbee, Arizona where he was working in the copper mines. As many during the depression he lost his job in the mines and they returned to Texas where they operated the Gulf Service Station on the corner of US 83 & FM 337 until the Leakey Bank closed and no one had money to buy gas. They did ranch work to make a living, after that Ray was the U.S. Mail carrier from Leakey to Sabinal for four years. Their son, Gary, was born in 1926 in Uvalde, Texas. Their next move was to San Antonio where Ray worked at Kelly Field. We were well into World War II by this time. Not liking the big city, they again moved back home and placed Gary in the Leakey school, his first grade teacher was Mary Crenshaw who had also been the first grade teacher of Elizabeth at the Rio Frio School. Four generations of Baughs have now attended the Leakey School. They bought out Jesse Robertson’s livestock and leased his ranch. They lived on the ranch for 21 years, during this time they bought a 640 acre ranch on Cypress Creek. They thought it was one of the best little ranches in the Frio Canyon. They also built the Humble Service Station in Leakey (the now Exxon Station). Ray helped build the Leakey High School gym, the first 4-H club show barn and the American Legion Hall. Ray was killed in a tragic accident on April 6, 1985. Elizabeth was a member of the Leakey United Methodist Church, the Leakey Methodist U.M.W., the Leakey Chapter #18 Order of Eastern Star, the American Cancer Society and the Chamber of Commerce.
