- Ruby Grace Moody, member of an Edwards County pioneer ranching family, died February 23, 2008 at the Plaza del Rio nursing facility in Kerrville. Ruby Grace was born November 24, 1913 in Cisco, Texas to Reuben G. and Cora Jordan Moody. While visiting her sister Alice (Mrs. Perry Mayes) in Rocksprings, Ruby Grace met Ray Allison Moody. The couple married on June 7, 1933. Although having the same last name of Moody, Ray and Ruby Grace were not related and never found any connection in their family histories, going back numerous generations. Ruby Grace often joked that she only married Ray so she wouldn’t have to buy new bath towels with a different monogram.
Following their marriage, they joined Ray’s parents, Franklin Allan and Georgia McCoy Moody, in the ranching business, still family owned today.
Ruby Grace was widely known for her musical abilities and played the organ for the Baptist church in Rocksprings for at least 60 years. She was also in great demand for piano or organ in weddings, bridal showers, funerals, locally and out of town. Ruby Grace was a Baptist Sunday School teacher for over 40 years, and Ray served as a deacon. She was president of the former Rocksprings Music Club, PTA, a vice-president of Rocksprings Woman’s Club, and an honorary member of Delta Kappa Gamma. Ray and Ruby Grace were very involved in the early years of the International Brangus Breeders Association and Texas Brangus Breeders Association, attending shows and sales all over Texas and other states, their show stock often bringing home ribbons and trophies, some animals leaving a lasting legacy in the breed. Ray served as a director, vice-president and president of the TBBA.
Church, family, neighbors, friends and ranching were the love of Ruby Grace’s and Ray’s lives, serving them all with devotion.
Ruby Grace was predeceased by her parents, her husband Ray, to whom she was married 65 years, her sisters: Mary Pat Bruce, Alice Mayes, Marjorie Laurie; brothers: Dwight L. and Cloyd Moody; and her only two children: Dean Allan and Timothy Ray.
