- A Rosary service for Porfirio “Pilo” Castillo, 77, of Portales, New Mexico was held Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at St. Teresa’s Catholic Church in Friona. A funeral mass was Thursday, April 12, 2007 at St. Teresa’s Church with Reverend Johnson Vadakumchery, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in the Friona Cemetery under the direction of Blackwell Home of Friona.
Mr. Castillo died Saturday evening, April 7, 2007 in Lubbock. He was born February 26, 1930 to Lulo and Guadalupe Vela Castillo.
He married Manuela Rodriquez on November 16, 1949 in Paducah, Texas. He moved from Friona to Portales in 1984. He was a retired farmer and a member of St. Helen’s Catholic church in Portales.
Survivors include five daughters, Anna Gomez and husband Alvaro, Sr. of Portales, New Mexico, Ophelia Tavera of Lubbock, Texas, Corina Roman of Wichita, Kansas, Lucinda Ramirez of Otoma, Iowa and Velma Moreno of Levelland, Texas; two sons, Jose A. Ramirez of Dumas, Texas and M. Ramirez of Lubbock, Texas; one brother, Matilde Castillo of Friona; five sisters, Maria Flores of Rocksprings, Texas, Feliz Crutchfield of Friona, Ignacia Sanchez of Clovis, New Mexico, Victoria Hollis of Friona and Sara Armijo of Clovis; one granddaughter, Melissa Ortiz and one grandson, Alvaro Gomez, Jr., both of Portales; one great-granddaughter, Destynea Martinez; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Alvaro Gomez, Jr., Jose A. Ramirez, Edward Castillo, Albert Ortiz, Alvaro Gomez, Jr., Joel Sanchez, Benito Castillo and Hector Castillo.

J. P. Chancey
J. P. Chancey died April 2, 2007 at his home in Rocksprings, Texas. J. P. and his wife Lilia moved to Rocksprings in 2000.
He is survived by his wife Lilia Chancey; children: Albert Patrick Chancey and wife Olean, Russell Allen Chancy and wife Patricia, Effie Tope and husband Gerald, Nancy Hanley and husband Tim and Jim Coby Chancey and wife Debbie; grandchildren: Vonna, Russell G., Lil’ Pat, Jetta, Jennifer, Gerald W., David, Patricia, Trina, Marsha, James, Laura, Codie, Teresa, Jim P., Billy and Leslie; 35 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; one sister Effie and husband Gerald of Bishop, Texas and numerous other loving relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Friday, April 6, 2007 at Rosewood Humble Chapel in Humble, Texas with burial in Rosewood Memorial Park.
