He was a World War II Veteran and served from 1943 to 1946 in the US Army in Company D 785th Tank Battalion. He was in the American Theater Campaign and in the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign. On April 16, 1949 he married Joyce Phillips in Rosenberg, Texas. Pete and Joyce moved to Leakey in 1977 after he retired from Pennzoil Corporation. He was a sixty year member of the Masonic Lodge and ranked as a 32nd Degree Mason. He was a member of the American Legion, Miles James Post 489 of Leakey. He was also a past member of the Leakey Lions Club and Shreiner Organization. He was preceded in death by his parents, Adolph and Mary Macha, four sisters, Rosie Kennedy, Della Burch, Mary Honc and Lucy May Rivers; also three brothers, Jack, Otto and Victor Macha Pete is survived by his loving wife of sixty years, Joyce Macha of Leakey; two sons, David Macha and wife Kathy of Carlsbad, New Mexico and Cody Macha of Three Rivers, Texas; eight grandchildren, Travis and Vickie Macha of Midland, Texas, Calem Macha of Lubbock, Texas, Phillip Macha, US Marine stationed in Okinawa, Trina Jones of Carlsbad, New Mexico, Sunny, Drew and Luke Macha of Toyah, Texas; two great-grandsons, Austin and Daniel Pete; one sister, Hilda Jaluska and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 22nd at the Frio Canyon Baptist Church in Leakey. Officiating was Brother Charles Woodward. Burial followed in the Leakey Floral Cemetery. Pallbearers were Calem Macha, Drew Macha, Travis Macha, Joe Waligura, Russell Orsak and J.W. “Butch” Phillips. Honorary pallbearers were Benny Phillips, Donald Howard Phillips, Philip Macha, Ernest Orsak and Wesley Oberhoff. Services were under the direction of Nelson Funeral Home of Leakey, Texas.
