Charles Daly (Pat, our “Pappy”) Cowsert left this world and joined our Heavenly Father and our many Angels early in the morning Friday, October 19, 2007. Ben, C.A., Cindy and Tim were praying over him as he ascended into Heaven.
Pat was born in San Antonio, Texas, June 2, 1933 to Mary Lou Daly Cowsert and Charles Avery Cowsert, the only son of that union.
He lived most of his young life and attended school in Uvalde, Texas. He graduated from Uvalde High School in 1951.
He attended Sul Ross University in Alpine, Texas and graduated with a degree in Range Management in 1954. He, along with his dear deceased friend John Allen Davis, were proud cheerleaders at Sul Ross.
Pat’s first and only employment was with the United States Department of Agriculture as a District Conservationist.
He began work in Fredericksburg, then Del Rio and finally in Rocksprings where he worked with the fine ranchers and residents of Edwards and Real Counties. He was involved in several major developments in these counties. He spearheaded the development of the first Hunters BBQ and was very involved in the Rocksprings Airport project. He diligently followed his love of working with people to develop the land, until he retired to pursue his other love of ranching, raising fine Spanish goats and finally boer goats and cattle. He loved being out in the country and had every head of livestock eating out of his hand. He loved his dog “Bob” who was right at home in the back of the pickup and “Mozell’s” cats - Sandy and Rascal.
Pappy is survived by his beautiful, loving wife of 54 years, Mozell Cosper Cowsert, whom he absolutely adored. They were very happily married August 15, 1953 and built a lifetime of sweet, cherished memories. Also, his four sons and their families that he was so very proud of: Benjamin Daly and his fiancee, Cindy; Timothy Lynn and wife Patti; Charles Allen and wife Michelle and William Jeffery. His grandchildren include Ben’s - Tiffany, Courtney and Blake; Tim’s - Brook, Courtney, Lindsey and Collin; C.A.’s - Morgan, Cole, McKenna and Maura. He also had two great grandchildren.
Pappy is also survived by Lila and husband Roy Rosin and Goddaughters Marty and husband Shawn Fuller and Megan Faulkner.
Pat is also survived by one stepbrother, Charles “Chuck” Cowsert and his daughter Kenna, first cousins, Bobby Perkins (his fishing partner), Anne Daly Herndon, Mary Sue Daly Leffere and Eddie Daly.
He is further survived by his ranching partner, Jim Little Glasscock and Jim’s family Mary Jane Glasscock, Abby Gesch and Franklin and Susan.
Pat was preceeded in death by one son, baby Ronald Lynn, his beloved mother, Mary Lou Daly Coswert Merritt, his stepfather Dr. George H. Merritt, his father Charles Avery Cowsert and his stepmother Blance Cowsert, two stepbrothers, George H. Merritt II and Charles Edward Cowsert along with very dear friends of his mother, Ruth and Clarence Gober of D’Hanis, Texas. Pat spent much of his childhood under the caring eye of Mama Ruth and Daddy Clarence.
It is with great pleasure that we share Pappy’s life. Pappy was such a positive and reinforcing influence in all of our lives. He was the strongest, kindest, most gentle man with the sweetest spirit. His devoted Holy Catholic faith was a tremendous force in all of our lives and no one will ever, ever fill his boots. We are all so proud and so very thankful to be able to call him our “Pappy”.
