- William A. “Buck” Welch loving father, grandfather, friend and neighbor, was called home to be with the Lord on Monday December 10, 2007 at the age of 80. He was born September 6, 1927 at Silver Creek Ranch in Montell, Texas to Ira J. and Grace Welch.
Buck grew up in Nueces Canyon attending both Camp Wood and Barksdale schools. He served his Country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1952. Upon returning from duty, he and his wife Fadia Mae Solomon Welch, worked to build his career in the petroleum industry in South Texas. They moved to Falfurrias to make their home and raise their children. After retiring from Sun Oil Company in the late 80’s, Bucky and Faye moved to the beautiful hill country town of Camp Wood.
Buck was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Fadia Mae Solomon Welch, his brother Ira James Welch, Jr. and sister Vondell Welch McFatter and his parents Ira J. and Grace Welch.
He is survived by his children William Allen “Bill” Welch and wife Julie of Morriston, Florida, Brenda Kay Welch Huvar and husband Dennis of Pipe Creek, Texas; sister Corrine Welch Stewart of Uvalde, Texas; and three grandchildren Jeffrey Allen Huvar and wife Sara, Matthew Edward Huvar and wife Christie all of Pipe Creek, Texas, and Adam Brent Huvar of San Antonio, Texas; numerous family members, friends and neighbors.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 13, 2007 a the Nelson Funeral Home Chapel in Camp Wood, Texas. Burial will follow in the Montell Cemetery. Viewing will be 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday December 12, 2007 with family visitation from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday. The family has requested that memorials be made in his name to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Foundation in lieu of flowers.
