- Memorial Service Announcement: A funeral service was held for Ramona “Mona” Sharon (Welch) Brock of Camp Wood at 10 a.m. on December 30, 2007 graveside in the Vance Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Nueces Canyon Volunteer Fire Department in Camp Wood or the American Cancer Society.

Nellie A. Exley, 94, homemaker, died on Wednesday, December 19, 2007. She was a member of Metropolitan Baptist Church of Wichita, Kansas, and was a Sunday school teacher for over 50 years. Funeral service was Saturday, December, 22, 2007 at DeVorss Flanagan-Hunt Chapel.
Nellie was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Exley and brother Joe Howard.
She is survived by daughters Jonell Davies (B.J.) of Wichita, Alice Todd (Dr. Chuck) of Rocksprings, TX; sister Marti Mackin of Evanston, Ill, 3 grandchildren and 5 great- grandchildren. A memorial has been established with the Metropolitan Baptist Church 525 W. Douglas, Wichita, KS 67213.
Everardo “Erby” Hernandez, 49, of Rocksprings, Texas passed away December 19, 2007 in Comfort, Texas. He was born August 13, 1958 in Rocksprings, Texas to Eduardo Hernandez and Manuela Samora Hernandez.
He was preceded in death by his parents Eduardo and Manuela Hernandez, a brother Eduardo Hernandez, Jr., and ex-wife Benite Rodriquez.
Erby is survived by two children, Everardo Hernandez, Jr. and Erika Hernandez both of San Antonio, Texas. Six grandchildren, Dominic Hernandez, Devin Hernandez, Isaiah Casso, Caleb Sanchez, and Nalenna Guerra. Three sisters, Millie Venegas of Rocksprings, Texas, Rosa Linda Carabajal of Ingram, Texas, and Yolanda Beltran and husband Cristin of Boerne, Texas. Two brothers, Robert Hernandez and wife Virginia of Boerne, Texas, Carlos Hernandez and wife Anita of Rocksprings, Texas.
Services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 22, 2007 at the Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Rocksprings, Texas. Burial followed in the Rocksprings Cemetary with Father John Fiala officiating.
Pallbearers were Amaro Hernandez, Manuel Carabajal, Gilmer Hernandez, Joshua Venegas, Jose Javier Venegas and Wesley Lane.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Nelson Funeral Home.

Jesse Lent Wells, 87, of Camp Wood, Texas died December 13, 2007 in Kerrville, Texas. He was born August 28, 1920 in Vance, Texas to Albert Griffin Wells and Rose Etta Smith Wells.
Lent married Ada Lee Bonner on December 16, 1941 in Vance, shortly before he joined the Navy. Lent served his country for three years during World War II while Ada Lee kept the home fires burning. After World Ward II they began building High Pine Ranch from raw hilltop land, working side by side for 59 years, raising cattle, horses, goats, sheep and six children. Lent served on the school board for the Barksdale School District and was instrumental in the consolidation of Barksdale and Camp Wood into the Nueces Canyon School District that all six children and two grandchildren graduated from. Lent was a loving husband and would not allow Ada Lee to go into a nursing home alone when her Alzheimer’s necessitated around the clock care.
He was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Rose Etta, his loving wife Ada Lee and their 7th child Gracie Gay, his sisters, Alice Smith and Grace Bain.
He is survived by his brother Sid Wells and sister Pearl Brice both of Camp Wood. Children: Bonnie Sue Northcutt and husband Norvell of Austin, Texas; Ava Lee Dilbeck and husband Richard of CAmp Wood; Jessie Kaylene Van Hellen and husband Russell of Boerne, Texas; Albert Lent Wells and wife Janet Marie of Camp Wood, Sammy Joe Wells and partner Frank Roberts of Leakey, Texas and Melanie Rose Jones and husband John of Brackettville, Texas. Grandchildren: Elizabeth Leigh Northcutt-Benson and husband Eric; Linda Nicole Northcutt and partner Alison Derrick-Northcutt; Boni Jay Sheppherd adn husband Charles; Eddie Lent Luce adn wife Elva; Coulter Wells Luce and Staci Newburg; Russell Judson Van Hellen and wife Lynn; Amy Elizabeth Knight and husband Jesse; Ryan Daniel Van Hellen and wife Summer; Sara Beth Wells and Albert Lent Wells, Jr.; JoLee Rose McKaskle and husband J.B. and Sunni Len Cates. Great-grandchildren: John Paul Northcutt-Benson, Theo Northcutt, Smantha Marie Sheppherd, Andrea Claire Sheppherd, Madeline Grace Sheppherd, Bonnie Alicia Luce, Lauren Preslie Luce, Lindsey Ava Grace Luce, Olivia Scout Luce, Baby Luce (due to arrive at anytime), Russell Cole Van Hellen, Julia Grace Van Hellen, Noah William Knight, Ryland William Van Hellen, Desiree’ Pearl McKaskle John Henry Conner McKaskle, Kody Daniel Cates and Aaron Robert Cates along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were his loving grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers were: Joe Moffett, Tom Spurger, Carroll Vernor, Jesse Lockhart, Norvell Northcutt, Richard Dilbeck, Russell Van Hellen, Frank Roberts, John Jones and all his nieces and nephews.
Services were held Saturday, December 15, 2007 in the First Baptist Church of Camp Wood followed by interment in the Vance Cemetery. Bro. Carroll Vernor, Jr. and Br. Gary Jones officiated.
Jesse Lent Wells was buried at the Vance Cemetery which is on land donated by his family. The Navy provided the flag that covered his coffin and taps rang out across the cemetery as he was buried with military honors. The flag was presented to the family for his service to our country.
Arrangements were by Nelson Funeral Homes.
The family suggests memorials to Nueces Canyon EMS or Frio Canyon EMS.
