He was preceded in death by his first wife Beatice Whittle Hobbs; one sister, Ruby Shelley and one brother Otto Hobbs. He is survived by two sisters, Vena Northcutt and Reba Hicks both of Camp Wood, Texas; second wife, Hazel Tucker Hobbs of Houston, Texas; one daughter, Sherri Hobbs Cernik and husband of Taylor, Texas; two sons, Harlan L. Hobbs and wife Charlene of Uvalde and Tommy Hobbs and wife Rhonda of Junction, Texas; three grandchildren, Susan Hobbs Murr, Tammy Michelle Hobbs and Dustin Davis and five great-grandchildren. Graveside services were held Saturday, January 26, 2008 at the Barksdale Cemetery in Barksdale, Texas. Services under the direction of Nelson Funeral Homes of Camp Wood, Texas. Thomas A. “Tommy” Morriss Thomas A. “Tommy” Morriss passed from this life on Thursday, January 17, 2008. Tommy was born February 2,1930, in Kerrville, TX to Thomas and Lucy Mae Morriss. He grew up on the Divide and attended a one-room schoolhouse until the sixth grade. He finished his schooling at Tivy High School in Kerrville. He then attended Texas Tech University for two years where he studied Agriculture. Tommy married Doris Ann Brown of Rocksprings on June 10, 1950. Tommy and Doris have three children: Mindy, Ann and Steve. Education of our youth was of importance to Tommy. He served on the Jeff Davis Co. School Board, Uvalde ISD Board of Education for seven years, and on the Board of Educators for the Education Service Center Region 20 for eighteen years. Family, faith and livestock were Tommy’s life. He enjoyed farming, ranching, and, most recently, became a leader in the Boer goat industry. While living in Uvalde, he owned Uvalde Equipment Company for thirty-four years; a John Deere dealership. He always said his “hobby” was M&M Trucking Co. owned by him and his brother, Bill Morriss. Tommy has friends and admirers from far and wide through his many endeavors and love of Boer goats. He was a very patient, kind gentleman and “gentle man.” He took great joy and pride in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was a very soft spoken individual with a beautiful smile and tremendous faith. For the past three years, Tommy accepted health difficulties with courage and graciousness. Tommy was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Bill Morriss. He is survived by his wife, Doris, and their three children: Mindy and Richard Hurt of Dilley, Ann Morriss and Steve Morriss of Sonora. His grandchildren: Travis and Jamie Hurt of Dilley, Holly and Trey Preston of Pearland, Morriss and Erin Hurt of San Antonio, Ashlie and Cody Schenkel of Sonora, Desirae Bolt of Austin, Stephani Morriss and Ethan Morriss of Sonora. His great-grandchildren: Cooper Hurt, Clay Tom Hurt and Payton Armbrister. He is also survived by an aunt, Patti Beall Morriss of Kerrville and three nieces: Shelley Brooks of Waco, Molly Morriss of Sonora and Lucy Dingel of Dallas. As he was a member of the First Methodist Church, there was a memorial service held at the First Methodist Church in Sonora at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 19, 2008. Burial followed at the Sunset Cemetery in Mountain Home, Texas at 3:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to the First Methodist Church of Sonora, Hospice of San Angelo, or the charity of your choice. |
