Candidates file for city and school elections
Those filing for city council positions by TMW’s deadline Tuesday were Pauline Gonzales-incumbent and Eladio Rocha, Jerry Jones, Andrew Barnebey, Alicia Rendon Arredondo and Eneida Magallon. Rocha was earlier appointed to the council, served several months, but was later removed as the meeting where he was appointed violated the Open Meetings Act.
Rocksprings ISD incumbent board members Stephen Franco-District 6, Diane Gonzales-District 2 and Tano Ramirez-District 1 all have filed for re-election.
Filing in District1 are Dana Drazan and Bobby Warren. Tony Ruiz has filed for the District 2 position.
Last day to file in either election is March 8th.

Gallegos and Bean in runoff for Judge, Bienek could ask for recount on close Justice of the Peace race

Edwards County voters, some 882 strong, cast their votes in the Primary Election. There were 460 going to the polls on election day, March 2nd, and 372 casting early votes from February 16th-26th.
In the Edwards County Judge’s race, incumbent Nick Gallegos will now face opponent Mark Bean in a runoff. Gallegos received 45.02% of the vote, Bean 30.73% and Olga Lydia Reyes 24.25%. Runoff election date is April 5th.
Romana Rendon Bienek challenged incumbent Joe Baker for the Justice of the Peace position. Baker garnered 291 votes to Beinek’s 287. The close race may result in a recount.
In other contested races Lee Sweeten won over Dale Nance in the Commissioner Pct. 2 & 5 race, and incumbent Mike Grooms kept his Commissioner Pct. 4 position over Annette Franco.
Results were finalized by 9:33 p.m. Tuesday evening.
